Uganda beats Congo in the their opening match

Uganda defeated Congo 2-0 on Saturday in Group A in the 2019 African Cup of Nations football competitions.
Patrick Kaddu and Emmanuel Okwi scored the two goals for the Ugandan team.

The Cranes are off to a flier thanks to a thoroughly deserved victory, their first at the Africa Cup of Nations for 41 years! They were the better team in all departments – more organised, more dynamic, smarter and sharper.

Kaddu and Okwi scored the goals from set-pieces but Uganda were also dominant in open play. This was an impressive performance and sets them up nicely for possible progression to the next round. DR Congo were frankly dreadful.

With this result, Uganda became top of the Group A with goal difference from Egypt, with three points for each, while Zimbabwe and Congo remained without any points.

The 32nd edition of the tournament is being hosted by Egypt from 21 June to 19 July 2019 with the participation of 24 teams.
